I'm thinking ahead towards trying to get seat time at local drift events. Never been on track, so let me know if I'm getting ahead of myself...
I keep thinking about my wheels and if I should buy something better. I have some 17x7.5 +40 OZ racing wheels i bought cheap. I also have some Tein HE's I bought cheap. The wheels don't clear the coilovers. Not sure how far off exactly, but the front didn't fit and I never tried the rear. It seems some people suggest stock wheels will fit, which I do have a set of tear drops and a set of steel wheels both 15".
Now should I make what I have work with some spacers then go get some seat time? Or perhaps sell these wheels and buy something affordable with better offset like the square 16" set?
Really looking for outside opinions. Open to all and any ideas. Suggest anything, I'd like to see what experienced members would do in my position.
just get a set of 20mm bolt on spacers and call it a day. keep all the wheels you have cause if your doing poorboy tire style then youll need all the spare rims you can get your hands on. dont waste your money on big wheels if you cant afford new tires everytime you go to practice,
I got the most seat time when I had my 16s and chewbaca stance and stock ka24de. I had 6 300zx wheels and 4 s14 se wheels. All I needed was a bolt on 15mm spacer in the front and that was enough for all the wheels to clear the coilovers. They also fit a lot better in a 240 than 17s. I mean if your really interested in seat time and not showing off some crazy 18x14s than 15 or 16s are the cheapest and best option.
I'm really appreciating the input guys. Was thinking about getting some federal 595's for the 15's and bringing the 17's to make sure I can get home. Def not trying to make an impression...at least not cosmetically.
I need to see if I can fit the stock wheels with the coilovers first. Then see about some spacers.
Any other suggestions for what to bring with for my first track days?
my buddy had problems using the stock 300zx wheels in front on his s14 because they would hit the coilover. The clearance issue was minimal and would be fixed with the 7mm spacer that PBM has. Also having the front end wider makes it oversteer easier.
