Drift heaven March 2008. (page 57~63)

This month Drift Heaven magazine focus on "how to build a car that doesn't catch on fire ".

Act1
Electrical parts and electrical wires. You need to take care your electrical system from heat, especially around turbo and exhaust manifold area where it get hot the most. For silvia and 180sx, you should relocate your power transistor(which is located behind the powerstering tank, next your exhaust manifold) when this thing gets cooked by the heat it will no longer send signals to your ignition and you won't get sparks. you can unwrap the electrical tape and move it further away from the turbo and the manifold, then rewrap it and secure it with zip ties.( if you have thermo protective material, wrap them were it gets hot the most)

Be sure to route your blow-by house away from the turbo and the manifold. Its a good idea to wrap them in fire guard sleeve. ( you can get that stuff from Earl"s)

Lastly , make sure you have your Battery secure down. Also ziptie your positive terminal protector down. so in case of a crash, the battery terminals won't contact the bonnet.

Act2
Check your gas tank and fuel lines. Simplest thing such as a leak in your fuel system can burn your car to the ground.

Check your turbo oil lines. leak in this system can also cause a fire. Before your factory turbo lines blow out change them with Earl"s hard line. (Its not so expensive to change them but it could save you a lot.)

Secure your oil dip stick. You can either fab up your own spring and bracket or just use a zip-tie before you go on the run, and just cut it off when you need to check the oil level.

Act3
Fire-extinguisher. The key is to mount them where its easy for you to grab. ( no reason to have it if you gonna keep it in the trunk)

Dont show this to Max. Fire sux. if you crash, you can still reuse your parts. if all your parts burn, youre done!
