Just wondering if you guys ever considered doing an exhaust that consisted on two smaller pipes or one oval pipe that sit up really high.
I would personally prefer an exhaust like the Trust-DD except have it be two pipes the whole way so the muffler can be smaller as well. Or just do it with a single oval pipe going into an oval muffler and having two out pipes. The idea would be to have a muffler under 3" thick so it can tuck up really good and still tone the exhaust out and not sound like ass (I am not a huge fan of straight pipes on SRs/KAs).
we've done alot of custom exhaust for lowered cars.
we have considered the oval pipe but its just not worth the money
our cobra has a 3" round pipe and sits above the frame rail, it eliminates scraping becuase of the high pipe routing, custom 2 bolt flange, and the vertically oriented flex does not hang below everything else like most pipes with horizontal flex sections. The slotted tranny mount is strong enough to pull the entire exhaust system up.
when we do catback the critical consideration is 1. getting as close to the subframe/diff as possible and 2. using solid hangers. When used in conjuction with the flex cobra solid hangers and a super thin gap between the pipe and the car will not cause rattling.
Clearing any muffler is usually not a problem because there is so much room under the trunk for it to get tucked. The lowest exhaust part that needs the most help always seems to be at the diff area. We do unmuffled pipes 95% of the time.
With the muffler I was talking about doing an under car muffler with pipes coming out of it as I dislike canister style exhausts. Since no one sells an oval exhaust with super low profile under-car muffler I figured it could be something you could corner the market with. I'm just not sure if it could be made cheap enough for lots of people to be able to afford them.
I see, im sure we could manage that, but the highest would defenately be without a muffler, some compromise in clearance will be made for the muffler and dual pipes by the diff im sure we could make it quieter with a tip restricton I wonder about the magnaflow type muffler thats nothing more than a glass packed dual wall tube
martin routed the pipes as high into the ds tunnel as possible. my subframe has also been hammered where the toe arm mounts. (just so much as not to effect adjustment)
i also have the subframe risers, which obviously yields more clearance. there is also a seam on the chassis at the bumper cut-out that was cut in order to further raise it
the only thing that scrapes is the flange, and even then only sometimes.
ya i suppose we dont advertise the fabrication too much because we can only do it for local customers and we spend most of our time on R&D fab.
theres defenately more stuff coming in this exhaust segment though we just did an exhaust on an RB with a cobra downpipe and it sounds amazing. I'll edit the video and then post up
when we release our production cat back systems for sale they will be made from this new oval tube we have been developing. and it will be completely solid mount, no hangers, its an exhaust for hardcore low riding badass mother Fers that need more ground clearance.
